Front

Front. Design, which I call “yotsu nu no ji usagi musubi,” is a knot of four of Somemaru’s artistic family’s crests. The silhouette of this design resembles a kiku (chrysanthemum), to recall Somemaru’s artistic ancestor Hayashiya Kikumaru. The four characters at the bottom say, “Yon se Somemaru,” or Somemaru, the Fouth. I chose to work with mokuren (also mokuRAN, or magnolia) wood, to recall another artistic ancestor, Hayashiya Ranmaru.
